Tranquility Trail Day March29, 2009

Tranq trail day was a huge success! Nineteen people came out to get the trail ready to ride again. The drainage issues have been repaired on the inner loop descent. Add 3 re-routes, 2 alternative lines, a dozen water bars, edging, trash pick up and everything else completed to make a very productive day. Thank you to everyone that worked today!

The trail day for Tranq and Swanson on Tuesday March 31st has been cancelled. Tranq is set and Swanson is in excellent shape as well. Let's ride!

Tranquility is open!!!!!!!

Tranquility: request from the city parks

Hello,

We have been asked to remind riders that the gravel road near the house is not to be used unless it is an emergency. The workers are not looking for riders in that area and fear that someone may get hit. It seems with the trail being closed and muddy, riders have been short cutting by taking the road. If this issue continues, the city will be putting up locked gates on both ends of the road. This will make it difficult for both the city workers and THOR. We really don't need to damage our relationship with the city in any way. If you see someone using the road in that area, please gently remind them that it is off limits to the public.

Thanks!

Platte Trail Crew

Trail work day scheduled for Saturday March 28th at Platte River State Park has been postponed. The trails still need time to dry and with cold and snow forcasted for the weekend its best to stay off the trails.
We also have to check the trail for storm damage from Monday's weather. We will try to schedule another day soon.

tp trailwork day

FYI, we have scheduled a trailday at Tranquility for this Sunday, Mar 29, from 12-16:00.

But with the rain coming, Chris, Dave, Marc, Paul, and myself decided to spend our beautiful past Saturday working on the trail to address several erosion issues. About 20 hrs from the five of us. Some of the guys have been putting in other hours on other days tweaking things here and there.

We really want TP to be in great shape with a complete south hill loop before opening up the trail. But the good weather seems to bring out illiterate riders who can't read that the trail is closed. Sections are under construction or need work.

TP inspection

Chris, Dave, Marc, Paul, and myself inspected much of TP Sunday. Unfortunately, a couple people used poor judgement and tried to ride the mud.

Based on the amount of work that needs to be done, even when it dries out, we have closed the entire trail until necessary trailwork is done. Paul has made this clear in a couple places.

Chris took pics of some of the work that needs to be done and parts of the trail that are gone from the tennis court expansion - see his mar 15 post at http://omg-wtf-lol.blogspot.com/.

The southhill descent cannot be reestablished until all the tennis court dirt is removed and grading is finished. We will be rerouting the ice loop to exit onto the top of the inner loop for now.

We estimate about 200 hrs of mostly maintenance work. This will require multiple trailwork days which we will add to the THOR calendar.

Trails Are NOT Rideable

The trails in our area are not currently rideable. Until the frost is out of the ground they will not be rideable. Please - DO NOT RIDE soft, wet trails. The soil in this area is very soft. When you ride wet, soft trails you leave ruts, cause erosion, and add needed maintenance.

Major Web Site Update

There are several items you want to look at on the TrailsHaveOurRespect.org web site.

First - The minutes/notes from the Annual Meeting are on the web site.

On the front page of the web site is our new Easy Trail Reporting Button. This will give trail users a convenient way to report problems on our trail systems.

There is a new calendar. There, you will find our schedule for routine trail maintenance. The calendar will have links to the blog for more information about the Trail Day.

The links have been expanded. Look for a reworked links page in the future. If you have a web site or blog we should consider contact our webmaster -- webmaster-at-trailshaveourrespect-dot-org.

See you one the trails...
